POP The TRUNK School Supplies Drive

Our schools are facing a challenging start to this new school year. It is uncertain what their needs will be, so we are accepting financial donations for our Pack-a-Sack and local schools so that we can address the needs as they arise. We are also collecting school supplies for the United Methodist Children’s Home, as they have provided a list of specific needs. We will have a Pop the Trunk donation day on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, from  10 a.m.-12 p.m. for these donations to be dropped off. Please use the North Drive and come around to the back of the building. Volunteers will be there to unload your trunk. Thank you for your generosity!

Faith-Based Habitat for Humanity build

Christian churches in Pinellas County are coming together to fund, and build a Faith-Based Habitat home for a deserving family in Largo. PHUMC has donated $5,000 toward the funding of this project, and you will have the opportunity to volunteer to help build this home.

PHUMC has assisted in putting the trusses, as well as volunteering to work on other aspects of the construction. Be watching for more build opportunities.

Florida United Methodist Children's Home

logo florida united methodist childrens homeAnnually we share the opportunity to visit to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home. During your visit, you will see first hand the good work they do and understand why we support them. Be watching for sign-ups.

The Florida United Methodist Children's Home was established in 1908 to provide a home for orphans and other children that had nowhere else to live.

Today it serves as a diverse ministry with two campuses that include residential, therapeutic group, foster, and emergency shelter care. The Home also provides independent living assistance and a community childcare center.

PHUMC has a partner church in CUBA!

That is right, PHUMC has joined with the Methodists United in Prayer covenant with Cuba. In this covenant we havphumc cuba mission team 003 002e been assigned a sister church, Union de Reyes. Unión de Reyes is a municipality and town in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. It is located in the western part of the province, 30 kilometers south of Matanzas, the provincial capital.

November 1-6, 2018 a team of five, led by Tom Artau, traveled to Union de Reyes to build relationships and bring much needed supplies to the church. The group preached and ministered to the needs of the community within the church.

Hopefully this will be the first of many trip to visit our sister church and create and even bigger kingdom of disciples.

“Pack-a-Sack” is a community outreach program designed to help address the problem of chronic hunger among elementary-age children in our public schools. This has been estimated to be approximately 15% of all children eligible for free lunches in Pinellas County. “Pack-a-Sack” works with selected Title 1 schools to identify children who exhibit behaviors that indicate chronic hunger, their learning abilities. “Pack-a-Sack” provides enough food to sustain them over the weekend. Volunteers from PHUMC collect these food items, package them in a bag, and deliver them to the public school we are assigned. It costs approximately $160 per student per academic year, which breaks down to approximately $4 per child per week.

Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child

samarpurse.jpgEach year PHUMC fills thousands of shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse is a non-denominational Christian relief organization led by Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham. People are asked to fill a shoebox with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, candy, etc. that will be sent to needy children in more than 130 countries. We will hand out empty shoe boxes, and collect filled boxes, in the multi-purpose room every Sunday in October.

Backpack/school supplies

Dsupplydrive.jpguring the summer months, PHUMC is busy collecting backpacks and various school supplies to fill thousands of backpacks for children that are in need. Organizations that have benefitted from our collections are Metropolitan Ministries of Pasco, our Pack-a-Sack Schools, Florida United Methodist Children's Home, along with other worthy organizations in our community.

F.E.A.S.T. Christmas Food distribution

fooddis.jpgIn December PHUMC volunteers have assisted F.E.A.S.T. Food pantry with their annual Christmas food distribution. They help in all aspects of the distribution from welcoming, to distribution, to carrying bags back to people's cars. This is a wonderful time of year and PHUMC loves supporting those in need in our community.

Walk for Freedom

Thank you to all of our sponsors for the 2020 Walk for Freedom that was held on February 1, 2020! The walk-a-thon was a time to join together for fun, fellowship, and exercise in support of Bridging Freedom. This faith-based organization is doing amazing work in its mission to combat domestic minor sex-trafficking by bringing restoration to those rescued and victim prevention to those they reach with their message.
